Coach Carol discusses calcium

We all need calcium. But does it seem right to drink the milk of another species to get it? No other animal on Earth does that. And we are also not meant to breastfeed into adulthood. So whether it be milk, cheese, or yogurt, when we consume dairy, we are effectively breastfeeding from a cow as an adult human.

The purpose of cow’s milk is to turn a 70-pound calf into a 700-pound cow as quickly as possible. It’s growth fluid for baby cows. And there’s so much wrong with it, including increased risk of breast cancer, prostate cancer, early puberty, weight gain, asthma, acne, and diabetes, to name a few. It’s just plain bad for us and cows and their babies suffer and die for us to have it.

Cows get their calcium from plants. So, just like the cows, we can and should get all the calcium we need directly from plants too.

Greens like kale and spinach, brussels sprouts, broccoli, tofu, almonds, figs, sweet potatoes, beans, squash, and the sources listed below are just a few examples of the many ways we can get all the calcium we need.
